Heartland Processing Security Breach (1/20/09)

Like thousands of other financial institutions, NorthPark Community Credit Union (NPCCU) has been made aware of what appears to have been a potential data compromise within one of the country's largest payment processing systems, Heartland Payment Systems.  Heartland is not connected to or is a vendor of NPCCU.  Heartland is a company that processes card payments for department stores, merchants, restaurants, and other retailers.  Data on consumer debit and credit cards may have been involved with the compromise.  Heartland issued a news release on January 20, 2009 stating that it had "learned it was the victim of a security breach within its processing sytem in 2008" saying malicious software was discovered in its' processing system software.

Vishing SCAM (8/6/08)

Credit Union Card Center (CUCC) has received several notifications from client credit unions that members are being called at home and on their cell phones stating their card has been suspended.  This is NOT from CUCC or First Data.  These members are victims of a vishing scam.  The member is told their card has been suspended and directed to call a (800) number to “reactivate” their account.  Once the member calls, they are prompted to provide personal information including:

Name
Card number
PIN number
CV value on the back of the card
Expiration date

For more information on vishing, please visit the FBI Website at http://www.fbi.gov/page2/feb07/vishing022307.htm.

Enhanced Login Security (5/19/08)

This superior security technology protects your accounts from unauthorized access.  It identifies you as the true "owner" of your accounts by recognizing not only your password but your computer as well.  If we don't recognize your computer - you've logged in from a public computer or one you haven't used before - we'll ask you for information that only you will know as an additional line of defense to prevent unauthorized access.  With Enhanced Login Security, you'll be protected from whatever computer you're using, whether you're at home or on the go.

Enhanced Login Security will:
1.  Defend against identity theft and fraud.
2.  Provide security from any computer, wherever you are.
3.  Make it easy for you to bank online anytime, anywhere.

Email Scam (4/1/08)

The following email was sent to one of our members requesting identity and account information over the phone.  This is becoming more common as perpetrators are using more sophisticated and professional ways to fraud our members.  Please be advised that NPCCU (or any other financial institution) will never ask for your personal or account information by email.  NPCCU will continue to provide a safe and secure environment by alerting you to these types of fraudulent activities.  If you are suspicious of an email or phone call soliciting information, please contact your branch as soon as possible!

Dear customer,
We recently reviewed your account, and we suspect an unauthorized ATM based transaction. Therefore as a preventive measure we will temporary limit your access to sensitive features. To ensure that your account is not compromised please call our security center toll free at: +1 - 888 - 800 - 1697 and verify your identity to prevent deactivation. If this is not completed by April 25, 2008, we will be forced to suspend your account indefinitely, as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes. We thank you for your cooperation in this manner.
